Passion for Boating and Innovation
Our love for the sea and sailing is matched only by our commitment to innovation. Every design we create is fueled by a desire to enhance the boating experience through cutting-edge technology and creative design solutions. We see every project as an opportunity to bring something new and exciting to the maritime world, blending tradition with forward-thinking to create yachts that are both timeless and avant-garde.
Honoring Tradition While Embracing the Future
We respect and honor the rich traditions of yacht design, drawing inspiration from the past to inform our creations. Yet, our eyes are firmly fixed on the future, as we incorporate modern design principles and green technologies to build yachts that are sustainable and forward-thinking, reflecting our deep commitment to protecting the marine environment.
Respect for Individuality
Understanding and respecting our clients' unique visions and desires are at the heart of our design process. We believe that a yacht should be a reflection of its owner's personality and lifestyle, and we strive to create bespoke designs that fulfill individual dreams and requirements with efficiency and elegance.
Efficiency and Pragmatism
Our design philosophy is characterized by straightforwardness and pragmatism. We adhere to the KISS principle ("Keep It Simple, Stupid"), ensuring that our yachts are not only beautiful and innovative but also practical and easy to use. This approach allows us to deliver designs that are both functional and uncomplicated, enhancing the joy of boating.
Intellectualism and Broad Culture
Our work is informed by a broad cultural perspective and a deep intellectual curiosity. We draw upon a wide range of influences, from art and architecture to science and engineering, enriching our designs with a diversity of ideas and inspirations. This intellectualism is a driving force behind our creativity, pushing us to explore new concepts and possibilities.
Multiculturalism
We embrace multiculturalism, believing that diversity enriches our designs and our understanding of the world. Our team and our projects reflect a global perspective, incorporating insights and ideas from various cultures to create yachts that are universally appealing and culturally sensitive.
Humour
We believe that humour is an essential part of life and work. It keeps our spirits high and fosters a positive, creative environment within our team. In our designs and our interactions, we maintain a sense of humour, reminding us not to take ourselves too seriously and to enjoy the journey of creation.
• History
J&J Design office was founded by Japec and Jernej Jakopin in 1983 in Ljubljana, today Slovenia.
First decade was marked by bestselling designs for large sailboat makers like Elan, Jeanneau and Bavaria.
From 1991 the office was supported by an in-house plug and mould shop which enabled the office to offer full scope of development (from concept, naval architecture and engineering to tooling and prototyping).
J&J started to design powerboats also in 1987 and most of the work is in this area since the last 25 years, based on extensive research work in tank-testing facilities. Applying the carbon/epoxy technology in the world of production boatbuilding gave birth to the Shipman Carbon sailboat range, starting in 2002. Their first diesel-electric and full electric range called Greenline started in 2008 and today the J&J designs represent over 1000 hybrid boats in the field, by far the largest fleet worldwide.
In 2011 the office started the newly founded Chinese power catamaran brand Aquila, which grew to today’s largest powercat brand based on nine J&J designs. In the last years the office did designs for the fastest growing powerboat brand in the world, Saxdor, successfully ventured in full-electric foiling technology with the BMW/Tyde project, of the latest Beneteau Group full-electric Island Cruising Concept project. Today the work of J&J is based on a history of 400 projects for production builders on three continents.
