TYDE / BMW ICON (THE ICON)

THE ICON by TYDE and BMW Designworks is a 14 m electric hydrofoil yacht: glassy, silent, and shock-free underway, with automotive-grade energy storage and a future-facing approach to water mobility.

Futuristic boat with a sleek, angular design and large glass windows, floating on calm water with misty mountains in the background.

THE ICON is a collaboration between TYDE and BMW Designworks that treats the boat as a new mobility object—part yacht tender, part futuristic lounge, part engineering demonstrator. The design uses foiling technology to lift the hull above the water, reducing drag and transforming comfort by cutting noise, vibration, and wave impact.

Its electric propulsion system is intentionally automotive in spirit, using high-capacity batteries and electric motors to deliver smooth, quiet acceleration. The foiling mode changes the onboard experience dramatically: less spray, less slamming, and a calmer ride at speed compared to a conventional planing hull in similar conditions.

The architecture is equally distinctive. A glass-heavy, panoramic cabin and flat-floor lounge create an experience closer to a modern interior space than a traditional helm-and-cockpit arrangement. The goal is seamless connection to the water without giving up protection, headroom, or all-weather usability.

THE ICON shows where high-end boating is heading: electrification plus foiling plus human-centered design, packaged as a calm, luxurious way to move across water—fast, quietly, and with a dramatically different feel.
