Designing for the Horizon: A First Look at the YOT 36 and 41 Power Catamarans

The maritime design world is witnessing a significant shift as the Catana Group—the masterminds behind the successful Bali Catamarans—launches its latest venture: YOT. This new line of power catamarans, built in Portugal, aims to bring the stability and volume of twin hulls to the competitive day boat and weekend cruiser market.

The YOT 36: Compact Luxury with a Secret

The YOT 36 challenges the traditional limitations of a 36-foot vessel. Its most striking design feature is the foldable bulwarks on both sides of the cockpit, which extend the beam by more than 5 feet at the touch of a button. This transformation creates a massive, open-air entertainment platform that rivals boats much larger in size.

Internally, the 36-footer utilizes its catamaran volume to offer a surprising layout. While one hull features a compact "overflow" cabin for guests, the other houses a dedicated owner’s suite. This suite is remarkably spacious for a vessel of this class, featuring a queen-sized bed, ample storage, and a private head.

The YOT 41: The Flagship of Social Design

Stepping up to the YOT 41, the focus shifts toward maximum social capacity and innovative engineering. Rated to seat upwards of 20 to 25 people, the 41-footer is designed for those who view their boat as a floating social club.

Key design highlights of the YOT 41 include:

  • Revolutionary Swim Platform: A central platform that can submerge into the water, featuring built-in steps for seamless access to the sea

  • Dual-Hull Living: Unlike the asymmetrical layout of the 36, the 41 offers two nearly equal cabins, each featuring a full walk-in shower—a luxury rarely seen on vessels of this length

  • Modular Layouts: From convertible backrests that allow for forward or aft-facing lounging to a massive electrical awning for total cockpit shade, every inch is optimized for user comfort

Performance Meets Aesthetics

Both models are powered by high-performance Mercury outboards. The YOT 36 features twin 400hp V10s, while the flagship 41 is equipped with the formidable V12 600hp Mercury outboards, where only the lower units rotate to provide superior maneuverability without the visual clutter of moving engine cowlings.

With a larger 53-foot model already on the horizon, the YOT brand is positioning itself as a leader in modern, functional maritime design, proving that two hulls are indeed better than one when it comes to living large on the water.
