Elevating Performance: J&J Design Crafts the Deck for the New Beneteau First 60
J&J Design is proud to announce its central role in the realization of the highly anticipated Beneteau First 60. Tasked with defining the exterior experience of this flagship performance cruiser, J&J designed (together with the Beneteau design team) and engineered the deck of the new First 60. To ensure the highest quality of execution from the drawing board to the water, J&J also built the tooling and the first two decks, with the help of J&J Design’s sister tooling company RND.
The new First 60 deck
The result is a design that the industry is already calling "futuristic and incredibly slick." Our engineering focus was on achieving a completely flush, minimalistic aesthetic that emphasizes the "First" series' racing pedigree while maintaining the luxury of a 60-foot cruiser.
Key features of the J&J-engineered deck include:
Minimalist Line Management: To maintain the clean, "sexy" profile of the deck, we integrated hidden line channels and specialized "wet hatches" to keep the deck free of clutter.
Advanced Control Systems: One of the most unique engineering feats is the main sheet control, which is led to a captive electrical winch tucked discreetly below the deck surface.
Functional Luxury: From the dedicated stern garage that seamlessly houses a large dinghy to the integration of high-tech helm stations, every inch of the deck was engineered for ease of movement and high-speed sailing.
By combining J&J’s engineering precision with Beneteau’s vision, the First 60 stands as a testament to what is possible in modern naval architecture—a boat that harvests maximum power from the wind while looking like a work of art.
